Kermit's school put on a literacy night, and Kermit has talked of little else for days now.  He reminded me at least a dozen times a day about literacy night.  Froggie had a rough couple days with his asthma, so I was nervous about how the evening would go, but decided we would go for it.  The big day finally arrived and Kermit was pleased as punch when we went to his school for dinner.

He insisted that we sit at "his table" and things just got better for this little guy when he not only got to eat pizza, carrots, and a cookie for dinner, but he got to eat dinner with Mr. Welch, the assistant principal.  We teased Kermit a little bit that he must get into a lot of trouble at school if the assistant principal knows him by name! (Last year Mr. Welch was Kermit's music teacher!)

After dinner some girls from a local high school took over for the literacy night activities.  They read all the kids the book Curious George Takes a Job, and then the kids were split up based on what name tag they chose when we signed in.  Kermit was a pharmacist and Froggie was a businessman.  Felicity was Froggie's buddy and went wherever he went!

Up first, Kermit got to draw on a big mural that said, "When I grow up"

He took this very seriously and created quite the masterpiece!

When Kermit grows up he wants to be a firefighter.  He drew a picture of himself driving the fire truck!

Meanwhile, Froggie was having fun playing some bingo!

Kermit was all business when it came to Bingo!

Raising his hand to call out BINGO!!!

Choosing his prize

This is the most excitement we saw out of Froggie all night.  Getting ready to frost a cupcake.

Big sister helping a little.

Now doing it all by himself.

The finished product!

Felicity making one for herself!

Froggie was starting to fade at this point.

While Froggie and Felicity were busy with cupcakes, Kermit was playing dress up.  He chose to be a construction worker.  His hat says "Boss"!

Seriously, how cute is this kid?

Playing with friends is always fun!

Kermit was sure excited to decorate his very own cupcake.

He was pleased with the finished product.

He said it tasted good, although this picture makes me wonder....

While Kermit was eating the rest of his cupcake I checked in on Froggie and saw this pitiful sight.  I decided it was probably time for us to call it a night.

At which time Froggie tried to convince me he was fine to stay a little while longer.  Lucky for everyone this was the last stop.

Kermit colored his Curious George mask.

He cut it out....

He put it all together.

And he tried it out!

And that my friends is a wrap on literacy night!  Kermit had been so excited about it, I was afraid it would be anticlimactic when the big night finally arrived.  No worries there.  Kermit had a blast and has spent the past few weeks recreating literacy night at our house.

Elf Jr.

A few weeks ago, Felicity auditioned for the musical Elf Jr.  This was the first time she auditioned for something outside of school.  She was nervous, as the audition was a cold read and then learning a dance routine.  Singing, which Felicity considers her strong point wasn't required until callbacks. She got a huge boost of confidence when she got a callback, and thoroughly enjoyed the audition process.  Two weeks went by and we heard nothing.  We chalked it up to a good experience and began looking for other things for her to audition for.  Last night I got a phone call at 7:20 letting me know that Felicity had indeed gotten a role in Elf Jr.

Felicity was at young women's and we had to pick her up at 8, so that didn't leave much time to plan a celebration, but the boys and I did our best.  Getting these two little guys to keep it a secret was no small task.  The ride home from church was filled with talk of the surprise and Froggie said at least five times, "Don't worry Felicity.  Your surprise isn't cake."  Thankfully we live really close to the church!  When we got home they asked her to wait in her room until they could get everything set up.

Operation "Congratulations Felicity" is underway.  Felicity was excited about the flowers, but wasn't sure what they were for.

I love how excited both of the boys were to surprise Felicity and to celebrate her achievement.

Roses and Lilies.  Her two favorite flowers.

Seeing her ice cream cake that said "Congratulations Felicity".  She still wasn't sure what was going on.

Reading a card that said "Good luck on Elf Jr,  You will be great!"

And she has figured it out!

Disbelief set in for a moment.

And then the joy took over.

This next picture makes me tear up.  She is sooooo happy.  I love seeing her like this!

Felicity, we are so proud of you.  You have worked so hard to develop your talents and that hard work is paying off.  You are incredible!

Ahoy Mateys

September 19th is National Pirate Day.  When Kermit and Froggie got off the school bus, we came home and put together some fun pirate costumes to celebrate this important holiday!  Here's what we came up with.

Kermit's favorite part of his costume was his gold tooth.  Sadly for him, they didn't fit too well and kept falling out.

I tried to steal their treasure.  They weren't about to allow that to happen.

Not sure I would want to run into these scary pirates on the open sea.

Whoops, we lost some of the scary and went back into chartered waters....Cuteness!

Charge!!!!

Froggie practicing his sword moves.

I might have called Kermit cute at this point.  To which he replied, "Mom, I'm a pirate.  Pirates aren't cute.  They're scary."

And then proceeded to prove his point.

Point proven, Kermit, you are one scary pirate!

Froggie tried to be scary, but this was as scary as he got!

The boys were having a blast playing pirates.  The excitement grew when Felicity got home from school, put on her pirate costume, and joined in on the fun.  They found a treasure map.  After Froggie had a chance to examine it for authenticity, we pulled up the anchor and hit the high seas!

It took the pirates a few minutes to decide which way we should go.

A compass is always helpful!

Let's go this way!

The final destination?  Krispy Kreme doughnuts!  Remember the excitement this past summer on national doughnut day when the kids each got one free doughnut?  That excitement was magnified today when....

Each of my sweet children got their own box of a DOZEN doughnuts.

Krispy Kreme gave one doughnut to anyone who spoke like a pirate and one dozen doughnuts to anyone who dressed up like a pirate.

Kermit wasn't sure if all of this bounty was really his!!!

Now what were we going to do with 36 doughnuts?  Felicity took her dozen with her on the youth temple trip and shared with all her friends.  Kermit and Froggie took another dozen to their grandma who was recovering from surgery and had plenty of visitors to help her eat them all.  While I think she enjoyed the doughnuts, I think she enjoyed the extra hugs and kisses from two scary pirates even more.  The last dozen they ate over the next few days!

                                                            Happy Pirate Day!!!!
