September 19th is National Pirate Day. When Kermit and Froggie got off the school bus, we came home and put together some fun pirate costumes to celebrate this important holiday! Here's what we came up with.
Kermit's favorite part of his costume was his gold tooth. Sadly for him, they didn't fit too well and kept falling out.
I tried to steal their treasure. They weren't about to allow that to happen.
Not sure I would want to run into these scary pirates on the open sea.
Whoops, we lost some of the scary and went back into chartered waters....Cuteness!
Charge!!!!
Froggie practicing his sword moves.
I might have called Kermit cute at this point. To which he replied, "Mom, I'm a pirate. Pirates aren't cute. They're scary."
And then proceeded to prove his point.
Point proven, Kermit, you are one scary pirate!
Froggie tried to be scary, but this was as scary as he got!
The boys were having a blast playing pirates. The excitement grew when Felicity got home from school, put on her pirate costume, and joined in on the fun. They found a treasure map. After Froggie had a chance to examine it for authenticity, we pulled up the anchor and hit the high seas!
It took the pirates a few minutes to decide which way we should go.
A compass is always helpful!
Let's go this way!
The final destination? Krispy Kreme doughnuts! Remember the excitement this past summer on national doughnut day when the kids each got one free doughnut? That excitement was magnified today when....
Each of my sweet children got their own box of a DOZEN doughnuts.
Krispy Kreme gave one doughnut to anyone who spoke like a pirate and one dozen doughnuts to anyone who dressed up like a pirate.
Kermit wasn't sure if all of this bounty was really his!!!
Now what were we going to do with 36 doughnuts? Felicity took her dozen with her on the youth temple trip and shared with all her friends. Kermit and Froggie took another dozen to their grandma who was recovering from surgery and had plenty of visitors to help her eat them all. While I think she enjoyed the doughnuts, I think she enjoyed the extra hugs and kisses from two scary pirates even more. The last dozen they ate over the next few days!
Happy Pirate Day!!!!
Great loot, little pirrrrrates!
