Blue Ribbon Babies!

Felicity and Kermit are on the swim team this summer.  Five days a week they are at the pool swimming their hearts out.  The practices are no joke.  They begin with "dry land."  Basically a lot of stretching, sit ups, and pushups.  Then they head over to the pool.  Kermit is with other five year olds, so his practice isn't nearly as intense as his big sister's.

The first day of swim practice we rode our bikes several miles to get to the pool.  About forty five minutes in to the practice a friend of mine asked Felicity how she was doing, to which she replied, "I think this might have been a mistake."  So funny.  Since then, Felicity has gotten into it big time and has rediscovered her love of swimming.

Tonight was the first swim meet of the summer and all the hard work has paid off.

Kermit told me this evening that he was not going to swim in the race.  Saying he was a bit nervous would be a gross understatement.  He was terrified.  "That pool is big" he kept saying over and over.   His sweet coach encouraged him to try.  Kermit swam the 25 meter freestyle and won a first place, blue ribbon for his team.

Felicity was excited to be at a real swim meet and enjoyed hanging out with her friends while she waited for her turn to swim.  Up first, she swam the backstroke leg in the medley relay.  Her team won a third place ribbon.  Next she swam in the 100 meter freestyle and she won a first place ribbon.  Then came the 100 meter back stroke which she won a third place ribbon in.  The last race of the evening was the 13 year and older freestyle relay which Felicity got to swim in, and her team won a third place ribbon.  I am not sure what she was more excited about.  The fact that they came in third, or the fact that she got to swim with the older girls!

To top off a fun night of swimming, the good news that their team had won the meet.
